Careers and Pathways Guidance

Careers and Pathways Guidance at Key Stage 3 & 4

The school employs a careers and transition consultant from Ealing's Youth and Connexions service to support pupils and their families in managing the next stages of their young people’s lives. The consultant is well-versed in all local college provisions for SEND learners across Ealing and the surrounding boroughs. The consultant assists young people in completing their Transition Action Plans and shares these plans with their families and other significant individuals.

In Year 11, all pupils receive at least 2 guidance interviews with the consultant to help them make informed decisions about their Post-16 education. The consultant then creates an Action Plan for each pupil, clearly identifying their aspirations, interests, and support needs. Throughout this process, the voice of the young person is of utmost importance, in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice (March 2015).

The consultant also attends and contributes to the Annual Reviews for all pupils in Year 9, Year 11, and beyond, serving as the expert voice on transition opportunities and outcomes for our learners. Their role is to provide support and alleviate anxieties related to the transition process.

Additionally, the consultant organises trips to local colleges and other providers for young people and their families. They help pupils complete applications for colleges, apprenticeships, or other training programs.

The school collaborates with the consultant to run workshops designed to support learners in Year 9 and Key Stages 4 and 5 in making informed decisions about their futures. At Post-16, we build on what pupils have learned in Key Stage 4, further enhancing their skills and knowledge to prepare them for their next steps.

Careers and Pathways Guidance at Post-16

At Belvue Post-16, we believe every young person deserves a future full of possibilities. Our Careers and Pathways Guidance program helps pupils discover their strengths, explore exciting opportunities, and plan the next steps that best suit them.

We work closely with Ealing Youth and Connexions services, emphasising the importance of listening to pupils' voices. Every pupil has the opportunity to attend a careers interview with Connexions, ensuring that their preferences, interests, and ambitions are central to their pathway planning.

In collaboration with the consultant, we also host an annual Transition Evening, inviting local colleges, service providers, and parents. This event allows families to meet with providers, ask questions, and gain a clear understanding of the opportunities available, helping them make informed choices for their young person's next steps.

From hands-on work experiences and Employability Week projects to college visits and supported internships, we support every learner in building the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to thrive beyond Belvue.
