Trips and Visits
Trips and visits offer opportunities for our students to learn outside the classroom, and support social development as well as promoting independence. With careful planning, visits provide a safe space to develop social skills and learn to navigate the real world, creating positive memories and a deeper connection to education in the classroom.
Visits offer our students opportunities to practice real-life skills such as navigating public transport, following a schedule and interacting with the wider community. Away from the classroom structure, students can build stronger relationships with peers and staff, learn to collaborate, develop teamwork and problem solving skills.
For the parents, carers and families of some learners with more complex SEND, taking their children ‘out’ in the evening, at weekends or in the holidays can be extremely challenging. At Belvue we aim to have all of our classes out in the local community at least once a week, and where appropriate we have developed our curriculum to include additional opportunities for students to have the support and guidance of familiar adults from the school when out in the community.
