Extended Curriculum
As well as the day-to-day taught curriculum, at Belvue we believe in the benefits of much wider and creative learning experiences. We actively plan to incorporate a wide range of activities across the year for all phases to help build confidence, develop social skills through interaction, and provide opportunities for discovering new talents and interests. These activities also offer a valuable space for our students to relax, have fun, and improve their overall wellbeing in a way that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
-
Activities such as Night School and Residential visits provide students with a chance to spend time with peers and friends out of hours, but still with the support of our staff and school systems.
-
We run Themed weeks throughout the year with a range of focus linked to Science, Arts, Culture and more. These theme weeks give staff the opportunity to create links for the students between different areas of the curriculum, and experiment with project based learning for a fixed period of time.
-
We take the whole school to a Christmas Panto as a cultural experience for them to engage in a different social & creative dynamic away from digital screens, with opportunities to interact with a live performance.
-
Specifically for our Post-16 students we hold an Employability Week and a Graduation ceremony that both, in their own ways, provide time for our older students to feel more grown up, and supported in their preparation for adulthood.
-
In the Spring Term we take our KS3 & KS4 students out for an Enrichment Day in mixed groups to support new social interactions and to allow us to challenge students with similar levels of need to try something new, out of their comfort zone and the support of their immediate class group.
-
In the Summer Term we hold our annual Sports Day to celebrate teamwork and to acknowledge how far our students have progressed as a class group since the start of the year. There is a focus on participation and engagement about all else.
Below are some photos from some of the amazing activities that take place as part of our Extended Curriculum. More recent activities can be found in the Blog.
