Woodlands

Curriculum lead:

Mr M Squire

Curriculum Vision:

We recognise our students benefit greatly from learning outside the classroom (LOtC) and often learn best from practical experiences. Experiential learning provides relevance that can be difficult to replicate in the classroom. With the woodland space we have available to us, we aim to provide regular access for our students to safely explore the natural environment and have ownership of a space that needs management, care and attention all year round.

Curriculum Impact:

In preparation for adulthood our students will:

  • Develop their understanding and a sense of wonder for the natural world.

  • Acquire transferable practical skills that can be applied in adulthood.

  • Find enjoyment in nature, and learn to work collaboratively with others in a physical environment.

  • Understand how to use appropriate tools safely to maintain a woodland area.
