CAREERS AND PATHWAYS GUIDANCE

The school employs a careers and transition consultant to support pupils and their families manage the next stage of our young people’s lives. The consultant is fully conversant with all local college provision for SEND learners, both within Ealing and the surrounding boroughs. The consultant supports young people with the completion of their transition Action Plans and shares this with their families and significant others.

In Year 11 all young people have a minimum of at least two guidance interviews with the consultant to support them in making an informed decision for their Post 16 education. The consultant then formulates an Action Plan for each young person clearly identifying aspirations, interests and support needs. In this process the voice of the young person is paramount (SEND code of practice, March 2015).

The consultant also attends and contributes to the Annual Reviews for all pupils in Year 9, 11 and above and acts as the ‘expert’ voice on transition opportunities and outcomes for our learners. Their role is to offer support and alleviate transition anxieties.

The consultant organises trips to local colleges or other providers for young people and their families. The consultant assist young people with completing applications to colleges, apprenticeships or other training.

The school and consultant run workshops in school to support learners in Year 9 and KS4/5 make informed decisions about their future.
