Our Rights, Our Roots: A Global Celebration Culture Week at Belvue High School
Culture Week at Belvue High School proudly centred on the themes of diversity, global citizenship, and the universal rights of children. In an increasingly complex world—where tolerance, understanding, and international awareness are essential—Belvue continues to highlight what makes our school community exceptional: its rich cultural diversity.
Throughout the week, pupils engaged in a wide range of activities designed to broaden their cultural knowledge and deepen their appreciation of global perspectives. These activities enabled pupils to explore different cultures, languages, traditions, and customs through interactive and experiential learning.
In addition to these cultural explorations, pupils also studied children’s rights as part of the week’s curriculum. They examined the principles set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, reflecting on how these rights apply to their own lives and to the lives of young people around the world. To celebrate this learning, pupils created artwork inspired by the theme of children’s rights, which has been displayed throughout the school as part of a collective exhibition titled Our Rights, Our Roots. This visual showcase serves as a reminder of the importance of dignity, equality, and protection for all children.
A key highlight of the week was the involvement of parents, who were invited to visit the school and share insights about their countries of origin and cultural heritage. The most anticipated celebration took place on the final day, when pupils presented traditional clothing from a variety of countries during a vibrant and joyful catwalk event.
Pupils and families also participated in collaborative art workshops that explored cultural identity and creativity. Cooking workshops and a lively food fair further enriched the experience, offering the school community the opportunity to sample flavours from around the world.
The Belvue Food Ambassador contributed significantly to the week’s menu by selecting dishes inspired by two different countries each day. The Student Council also played an important role, offering ideas that helped shape engaging and inclusive activities across the programme.
